Course Goals:
This course provides students the opportunity to:
Learn realistic self-defense.
Improve overall physical conditioning.
Learn basic martial art techniques.
Improve balance, flexibility and strength.
Student Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Protect themselves in a variety of situations.
Demonstrate basic martial arts techniques and improved physical condition.
Demonstrate improved balance and, flexibility and strength.
Demonstrate basic techniques and be able to discuss the application of the techniques.
Class Breakdown:
Each class will be broken down into the workout portion where we will focus on your basic martial arts techniques, more specifically kick-boxing skills and drills and the self-defense portion of class which will focus on hand to hand combat techniques.

HPE132 is designed to provide students with a strong foundation of realistic self-defense skills and knowledge of martial arts history and origins. This course will provide students with a variety of combative techniques and self-defense techniques including defenses for hand gun and knife attacks. Students will also be taught verbal strategies to avoid a confrontation.
